“Ah,” The noise came up unbidden from Cas’ mouth. “We, um...” Red rose heat covered his cheeks as he tried to regurgitate the unwanted whispers. “We’re not...”
“What?” Dean blinked, frowning. “We’re not dating?” Castiel gave him a curt nod and went to let go of his charge’s face, but Dean still held on. “Then why do I feel like this?”

Dean gets hit with an incomplete spell that leaves him with the unusual sensory ability of smells associated with people, like an aura being sensed olfactorily.
Which is all well and good, he's not hurt, so no harm, no foul- even if Sam always smells like cinnamon and a bakery, making Dean hungry all the time.
It becomes a problem when he smells Cas, though.

Summary
It is daytime. That is all he knows for certain.
But right now, there are noises. It’s not a struggle, it’s more of a clattering. There’s a scolding to accompany it, and then the clanging of a metal door. It’s more noise than he’s heard since his arrival, and despite himself, his heart jumps, because maybe they’ve come for him, after all. Maybe there’s an end to this nightmare.
He should know by now how dangerous hope can be.

Cas comes back. It's not exactly the reunion that Dean is expecting.

Dean stares at him, flummoxed. Cas quite literally poured his heart out to Dean, gave a truly sappy and distressingly romantic speech and everything, then proceeded to give his life so that Dean could live his. And he wants to act like he doesn't want to see Dean, be around him, touch him?
Actually, Dean's ninety-nine percent sure that Cas probably wants to fuck him, and while he has no clue how he feels about that, he's pretty goddamn sure that means Cas doesn't get to act like this and make it authentic.
It feels strangely real, though, as if Cas wants nothing more than to get as far away from him as possible. This is a blatant contradiction. Even someone as weird as Cas doesn't want to get away from the person they have the desire to fuck five ways to Sunday, that they're in love with. That's not how these things work, so Dean isn't buying it.

“I wish I knew what you looked like,” D-Dean says and he’s interrupting the voice on phone. The man’s in the middle of explaining something—something about him becoming human (isn’t he human already?), something about an asshat named Dean who threw him out onto the streets, something about why Castiel’s always afraid, always wary not to stay too long even though he wishes that he could.
But Dean doesn’t know what it means.
The man’s voice is quiet, quiet a lot, but he says, “There’s a family picture in Sam’s phone.”
It takes him a while, a lot of Cas explaining to him who Sam is (he forgot again), a lot of explaining that yes, his name’s Dean and that he’s not Sam. A lot of explaining, a lot of whispered things that are gentle and make Dean feel good.
But then he finally sees the picture.

Summary
Featuring angelic crash courses, fluff and angst and emotions alike, Dean dealing with what he is inside, and a heaping pile of what I hope is sufficiently descriptive writing (all wrapped up in a winding, suspenseful plot):
Dean Winchester has always prided himself on his humanity. On being who he is, and not living on the same side of the line as the supernatural beings he'd been raised to hunt.
But what options remain when it's revealed that what he'd known himself to be was never the truth?
Dean's faith in who - and what - he is will be tested by new truths and shadowed by new strengths, and challenges he's never faced will stir and come to light (just in time for him to face them head on).
Will he find it within himself to fight and win?
Or is balance not in the cards for a being with power he's never before had to comprehend?
Author's note: This story is NOT DEAD. Just on a slow posting schedule due to health reasons. :')
