Summary
Steve had a bad feeling, and this wasn't the first time it had happened.
For as long as he could remember, he had always had hunches. Hunches about events that hadn't even happened yet but warned him before the shoe could drop. He was used to them. To the bad omens. To the anxiety they brought.
Maybe, that's why he was as tense as a coiled spring when they entered Hawkins Lab, as gray as decayed as the rest of the Upside Down. But not even a hunch could have prepared him for what happened that day. He couldn't have braced himself for the party splitting up. He couldn't have braced himself for an argument with Dustin, much less the boy's violent reaction at him bringing Eddie into the conversation.
He couldn't have expected to crack his head open into the ground, nor the world that waited for him when he opened his eyes once again. Neither the spider that bit him, or the powers that would later bring him.
And when this peculiar world welcomed him, he couldn't help but wonder.
Was that Munson? In a big sign? Wearing a hero-like costume?
And why on Earth was he blond?

When he appeared at the gate, Shane forgot how to breathe.
He’d seen a photo. Too many pixels and the colour printed was much too dull, but it was still him. Hair more golden than brown, skin more warm than pale, lips more pink and plush.
Bigger than expected. Not just physically, but the way he walked into the room felt commanding. Demanding that he hold presence in the long line of bodies, and the room didn’t argue, just let him take what he wanted.
Shane had tried to do the same thing; tried and failed. He held a presence, but not like this. This was confidence and self-assurance that Shane and his therapist had been working on. And he was getting there.
But this guy didn’t even try.

“What you thinking so hard about?” Clark asked, his large hand coming to rest lightly on Bruce’s thigh.
Bruce blinked out of his reverie, turning to look at Clark’s profile as the man focused on the road. His curls fluttered around in the breeze of the AC, and his eyes sparkled with energy from the sun. Clark’s red flannel shirt that Bruce pretended to hate was rolled up to his elbows, unintentionally showing off his powerful forearms. To Bruce, he was the most gorgeous man in the world.
“You.” Bruce replied, uncharacteristically sentimental.
He was rewarded with Clark’s small, shy smile, and traces of red colouring his cheeks, tracing up to the tips of his ears. Clark didn’t respond, and Bruce took some satisfaction in his ability to render Clark speechless, but he felt Clark’s love all the same, the other man gently squeezing his thigh.
“Get a room!” Dick gagged from the back, wriggling around with his seatbelt.
Bruce hit his head back against the headrest once more. It would be a long twenty minutes to Smallville.
