He feels content here, on the edge of a rooftop in the darkest part of Gotham, with his brothers' bickering voices around him. Damian is sixteen, nearly seventeen, and he thinks he has his whole life ahead of him.

“Isn’t dead,” Tim shouts then and everyone goes silent. Tim closes his eyes shut tight. He won’t look at anyone. He can’t. “H-he isn’t dead.”
“Of course not,” Cass says but her voice is different; it’s smaller. Less sure. And Tim has a horrible feeling that she doesn’t believe him.

Or: Tim and Damian (and the Titans) are caught as per usual and for almost two days Tim thinks that Damian is dead. It's the longest two days of his life.

“Bruce doesn’t always mean it when he yells, Damian,” Timothy sighs. “He just isn’t good at expressing himself. He is worried about you too, you know. And he is glad we are both safe.”
Damian closes his eyes and refuses to cry in front of his rival. Timothy doesn’t comment on it. Instead he places a gentle hand on Damian’s head for a second before he gets up and quietly exists the room again to give Damian his privacy.

Tim hears him before he sees them:
Damian screams like he’s being tortured. Dick shushes him gently and tries to hold him closer against his chest comfortingly. It only makes Damian trash harder and scream louder. Dick squeezes his eyes shut tight and grits his teeth.
He stares at the sight in front of him and for a moment he is completely frozen in shock. He shouldn’t be so surprised; O had told him Damian had been dozed with enough fear toxin to take down several grown men. But still.
