Summary
Phillip always thought he would die on the battlefield, in a blaze of glory. The last few months changed those thoughts. Not in a million years did he think of this.
He stared across the livingroom, into the dark eyes of the hunter, and they looked pleasantly back at him.
He’s paid off all his debt, made wrongs to rights. All he had to do was accept the loving embrace.
If he never retired, or if he never settled down in Forks, he would be facing a different face of death. Maybe one worse, maybe one better. Was it unreasonable for him to enjoy the little bit of what he saw of life past the human worlds? Is it unreasonable for him to grieve the end of it?
The hunter smiles, they saunter forward to kill him.

Summary
Phillip Graves, a tough soldier, is hospitalized with a mysterious, life-threatening illness that leaves him feverish, weak, and frustrated at his loss of control. Enter Dr. Gregory House — sarcastic, blunt, and brilliant — who immediately needles Phillip with mockery but takes a keen, almost unsettling interest in solving his case. Over 48 grueling hours, House pokes, prods, and insults his way through diagnoses while Phillip endures with military stoicism, the two trading biting banter and forming a reluctant connection.
One night, Phillip crashes, forcing House to resuscitate him with a rare glimpse of desperate concern. As Phillip slowly recovers, he notices House’s frequent visits under the excuse of “medical supervision,” the lingering stares, and the subtle care hidden beneath sarcasm. Their guarded, sharp-edged exchanges hint at a deeper bond neither openly acknowledges, thick with unspoken tension. In a rare moment of vulnerability, Phillip teases House into promising him a drink when he gets out — a promise that carries far more weight than either of them admits aloud.
