Summary
He staggers out to the yard, desolate at this time of night, and finds the emptiest, furthest corner they can. There's a wheezing from his pipes, desperation beginning to eat away at their insides, and they double over before they get as far away as they would have liked. He hacks, coughs and splutters, but what escapes his lips is not the trapped fuel or lubricant they expect.
It's vines. Leaves, big and green and spiralled. Flowers, delicate little red, yellow and pink things that he clocks as begonias, their petals stark against the floor like a bloodstain. There's ice in his fuel lines too, that settle inside of him uncomfortably; he can't tell if this is fear, disgust, or sadness, but the pit in his core that threatens to swallow him whole is saying nothing about this is right

When Hydra gets too close to another train, he coughs up flowers. This would fine if each relationship didn’t threaten his life.

Summary
When eighteen-year-old dragon Pokemon trainer and listless force-of-nature Raihan Karimi is invited to audition for the role of gym leader in the up-and-coming Galar region, he's not even seriously consider the position. After all, Raihan has been wandering the world since leaving Luminose City on his Pokemon journey at the age of nine, and despite the name he's made for himself in the trainer world, he's never felt a call to settle anywhere--especially not a rural, agrarian region with a regional Pokemon League just now starting to get worldwide attention. Yet Raihan has been so bored for so long, and the idea of facing the unbeatable Champion of Galar is appealing, so he might as well take a look--if only for the exhibition match.
Then, a stranger walks into the almost-empty train care that's taking him to Hammerlock, and the world as Raihan knows it shakes beneath his feet.
(Aka. Leon and Raihan meet and decide to speedrun a friends-to-rivals-to-lovers arc.)
Chapter 8: In which Raihan and Leon join Opal and Aria for tea on the ravaged pitch of Hammerlocke Stadium, Raihan finds out a bit more about the mess he's getting himself into, and Opal gives her final verdict.
