**CHAPTER 5 WEIRD ROUTE SPOILERS AHEAD**
Susie was the one who found them. Kris had been holding Noelle’s chin up, out of the water, and Susie would always swear Noelle was still alive for a heartbeat after bringing the duo ashore. A heartbeat, however, is only that. Days later, an investigative team arrive at Hometown and rub salt in the wound, claiming that all signs point to Kris being the perpetrator of this murder-suicide.
Although the lie was at first met with disbelief, it gradually began to infect the thoughts of Hometown’s residents like a plague. Susie can’t bring either of her companions back, but she can at least wipe the dust from Kris’ name, can’t she?

"I'm telling you," Noelle balls her fists, angers her antlers down a bit like she does when she's mad. Kris gets a vivid flashback—of when Kris pranked her one day, hiding frogs to make noise under her bed for a week, and she chased them around threatening to impale them forever. They think she got it from Dess. "Stop! I…I don't know what you're talking about!"
Kris looks at her now.
They're both so, so different now.
"Snowgrave."
A silence between them. Berdly pauses in his attacks, blinking. Watching them. Noelle's breaths come in and out, ragged and raw. Her eyes are a bit wild when she looks at them. "Fine," She spits out, "Fine. You want to see what happens?"
She turns away from Kris, holding both palms up. Her teeth click with resentment on every hard syllable. "Watch what happens when I cast a spell I don't know!"
There's a long few beats of silence. For a moment, Kris thinks nothing happened. And then she snow around them stirs, and before they know it, they're locked in a sea of white.

For as long as Tails can remember, Sonic's always made up a different story about how they first met. He's said he found Tails following him through the jungle, that he fell on him from out of a tree, that he caught him fixing his plane... It has become a constant just how inconsistent he can be with all these different versions of the same story. But Sonic's just having a bit of fun and exercising his right as his big brother to mess with him a little. Over the years it became their own silly tradition in a way.
Until Tails realizes the real reason why Sonic doesn't tell it right.
Time isn't a straight line, and the stitches holding their story together are a little uneven, but like Sonic says, the how isn't always what matters. That it happened at all is what does.
