    Summary

Blackmail. Illegal porn. Undercover at a gay bar. The Nice Guys sure are at it again.

“Porn? I can throw a rock in this neighborhood and I’m gonna break the window of a porn store.”

March gestured anxiously, waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Healy paused. “Ohhhhh. The nasty stuff. Whips and handcuffs. Girls and animals.”

“Close,” March said, grimacing. He really, really didn’t want to have to explain this. “Think more like…. Disco.”

“Disco?” Healy raised an eyebrow. “What, like the queer music? You think the back room of that store is full of porn for… For disco fans.” He nodded thoughtfully a couple of times. “And you’re an expert about this?”

For a second the whole world went white around the edges and March thought he might pass out. He was too sober for this conversation. What exactly had Healy noticed that morning, how obvious exactly had his full-body reaction to Healy’s hand on his neck been? “I was a happily married man!” March said, and as soon as it came out of his mouth he knew it was wrong. Too fast, too high-pitched, too loud.

    Incriminating.

Healy shook his head at himself. “I’ve never raised a kid. What the fuck do I know, right?”
March’s mouth dropped open for a second. “I mean,” he said eventually. “I’ve never raised a kid before, either.”
Healy chuckled. “Two clueless guys, huh? Good thing Holly is the brains of the operation.”

"Not like a replacement. Not just someone new. Someone who…” Someone who picks up all the pieces of myself that I keep losing and dropping and breaking. Someone who loves my daughter. Someone who makes me think that maybe I’m better off alive.

“No, hang on,” March protested, tugging on Healy’s jacket. “You don’t have to beat everyone to death.”
“Just the ones who try to kill you or Holly,” Healy growled.
    That was sweet, actually.

The way his heart was banging against his ribs, he was going to end up bruised on the inside. He hadn’t really thought there was anything left inside him to feel anything, let alone this little kernel of hope and wonder.

    Summary

He hates to admit it, but he was more than a little impressed. He hates how Ignis seemed genuine for almost the entirety of dinner. Hated how the man seemed to play into Prompto’s weakness. He hated how he felt butterflies that were not due to nausea when Ignis brushed his bangs back.

The asshole had the audacity to tell him goodbye and that it was a pity to have it end like this.

Oh, but Ignis didn’t know. Ignis didn’t know that he had the resilience of a cockroach after a nuclear blast. Ignis didn't know that Prompto knew how to get under people’s skin and drive them mad.

Simply put, Ignis didn’t know what Prompto was capable of.

But he was certainly going to find out.

It continued this way for quite a while. Ignis would try to poison him, and Prompto would miraculously show up the next day, poison-free, and sending Ignis finger guns and the brightest of grins.
“You are a weed,” Ignis seethed one night, chopping the vegetables a bit harsher than he needed to.

Something was telling Gladio that there was more to this. It felt...teasing. Like a game. The only thing Prompto seemed genuinely upset over was the fact that his jeans were ripped! Not to mention that if Ignis truly wanted someone dead, they would be dead. He wouldn’t half-ass a job and allow his target to live.
No. This was...this was a dance.

"Hey," Prompto murmurs, his violet eyes searching the side profile of Noctis' face. "The world's looking pretty heavy tonight, huh, Your Highness?"

Alternatively: five times Prompto uses Noctis' title as a joke to hide his insecurities—and the one time Noctis says it back and means every single word.

Your Highness. It's a defense mechanism, a shield against the vast chasm of social divide between their statuses. If he says it as a joke, it can't hurt him. If he makes it a punchline, then the reality of Noctis' crown can't push them apart.

"Noct," he cries, his hand finally turning beneath Noctis' grip so their palms can meet, his fingers tangling with the king's in a desperate attempt to hold on. "You can't just tell me that. How am I supposed to let you go if you say that?"

    ○○○○○○○○○○○○

"Hey," Noctis mumbles against his lips, his thumb tracing Prompto's wrist, right over the place where the barcode used to define him. "You don't have any more titles for me, do you?"
Prompto lets out a wet laugh, his fingers tightening in Noctis' hair. "No. It's just you and me now."

Either he had somehow managed to drink his entire year's supply worth of alcohol he had stashed away, he had made a potion horribly wrong, or three handsome men had broken into his cabin last night and tried to kill him.

    ○○○○○○○○○○○○

About an hour after he managed to get to bed, Prompto’s eyes snapped awake with the realization that all that had happened while he was in his boxers. He didn’t sleep well after that.

    ○○○○○○○○○○○○

Later, Prompto would look back on this and have no idea what possessed him to do what he did. There wasn’t any thought, not even any plan or real motivation. He just saw the way his eyes glowed and reached out, cupping Noct’s face with both his hands. “Cast another spell.”

    Summary

“You’re not the other model,” Noctis muses. He tilts his head, eyes flicking over Prompto’s—well—everything again.
The compliment in Noctis’ assumption hits him full force on a second delay. His cheeks burn so brightly they’ll probably need to put the fan on early in order to cool the room back down.
Prompto’s reaction spills out in a nervous laugh and Noctis visibly chews on the inside of his cheek to bite back his own smile.
“Mr Argentum took those pictures of Lunafreya for Wild Wilderness you’re so fond of,” Ignis supplies helpfully.
“Oh,” Noctis breathes. “Okay. Wow. Okay.”

Five (5) times Prompto is paid to take Noctis' photograph and the one (1) time he gets to do it for free.

“I couldn’t forget you,” Noctis says. Prompto’s cheeks burn at his earnest insistence, at the idea he is worth remembering at all and cannot find it in himself to tell Noctis the sum-total of their interactions twelve years ago were shoulders brushing in a hallway and Prompto tripping so dramatically over his own shoelace that he took out three of their classmates with him.

    ○○○○○○○○○○○○

Noctis is difficult to work with.
It’s not the first time Prompto has heard this, though he’s never experienced it himself. The problem, Prompto thinks, is that Noctis is actually a little shy and would not have chosen this career if it were not handed to him.
