Summary
As long as she’s in the detention suite with him, the mood is contained. This budding thing that he feels, ready to bloom and flourish and thrive between them, to drive them both into a new chapter of their lives, is still present. But if she leaves, if he can’t see her and watch her process these new changes, ready with the reassurance he knows she will need, he has no way to keep them on the right path. In two weeks, she could come back, determined to recreate their professional relationship. He can’t have that. He’s waited so long. The yearning is eating him from the inside, an insidious, hungry little thing that is calling now, now, do it now.
And Patrick Jane hasn’t gotten to where he is in life by not listening to the dark, covetous parts of his soul.

“Oh, I missed you,” Jane breathes, wrapping her up, inhaling the cinnamon and orange scent of her hair as he gently rocks her body back and forth. He suddenly realizes how Lisbon must feel when her prayers are answered, except his version is better because she is tangible, better than any god one might worship. Teresa Lisbon is beautiful and strong and complicated and messy and paradoxically perfect to him in every way. There’s no need for proselytization because he needs no persuasion to get on his knees before her.

A few hours later, Lisbon winds herself around his body, under his arm, as she helps him hobble out of the airport. The man he was before would call this a win. But this is not winning, this is his path back to that peace he had in her arms all those months ago. She has now seen him as he is: that trembling, dark animal in the road, flayed open to his grieving and greedy soul, unable to escape the horrors of the open road. But Lisbon has stopped the car for him. She’s taking him home.

She smirked as she combed her fingers through a warm spiral before letting it fall softly around her face. His reflection in the bathroom mirror was impish, and the way he moved around her – hovering a little too close – was just plain bothersome.
“I’m not fretting, Jane.” She reached out, straightening the light grey tie he’d paired with his charcoal suit. “You couldn’t seduce me if you wanted to.”

“Someplace nice apparently,” she says bitterly, trying to subtly wipe the tears off her cheeks without him seeing.
“What does that mean?”
“It means he’s a coward.”
Cho doesn’t say anything to that for a moment, just studies her carefully before finally settling on, “Let’s go get a drink.”

“What the hell were you thinking, you can’t just kidnap me!”
“It’s not…”
“You took me out of the hospital, brought me here — wherever the hell here is — and made sure I didn't have my phone. This is the literal definition of kidnapping,” she seethes at him.
He doesn't offer her a rebuttal or any further information so she takes it upon herself to stand, walking quickly to the door of the cabin, to try and make some sense of what’s going on. She steps outside into darkness as Jane follows close behind her without saying a word.
“Where the hell are we?” she demands, looking around wildly, taking in the lack of streetlights, or signs of anyone or anything else nearby.
“I can’t tell you that,” he says bluntly.
