There is a furrow between Hoseok’s brows, deep enough to have been eroded by water over thousands of years. He stands like a carefully carved statue of some Greek god, an Adonis, weight resting on one foot as water strikes his body. He is bronzed, they both are, from the bathroom lights sunsetting over them.
Even as someone who observes, who sometimes memorises, Seokjin doesn’t immediately understand what he’s referring to. From Hoseok’s lips: said and not did. The student in him emerges again, puzzling over this tiny clue—the latest in many he has figured out so far.

“What, um,” he said, and immediately there was the guard on his face, the mask. “What did— what do I— what do you think I might want to talk about?”
Yelena swallowed. The doors were still open. “Oh, I don’t know. Uh, like the, uh, crazy things my dad says. Like, maybe if you wanted to talk about that, I thought, you know, you could come in and we could talk about that.”
Bob didn’t move for a moment. His dark eyes were fixed on the floor, on the crack between the elevator and the floor to her room. On the void between, tiny and endless, a crack of pitch blackness in the building that eyes never saw and a finger couldn’t fit into, but a void all the same. “Do you… want to talk about that?” he asked, his voice quiet and low and cautious.

There is a constant countdown in his head. It stops sometimes, pauses for a day or two, a week tops. The small hand catches at five minutes to the moment where he’s going to look around and know he can’t do this anymore. It’s not like Seunghyun makes the doomsday clock in his head common knowledge but Jiyong has a sixth sense for it. That, or incredible timing. But it’s impossible, really, not to notice the way the times between promising himself he can find a way through this, and knowing he can’t, are getting smaller and shorter.

On heavier days, sometimes the professor mildly regrets agreeing to these joint sessions, but only because they expose his wounds to Hoseok—and vice versa—albeit in a healthy way and in a healthier environment. Maybe “regret” isn’t the right word, but as a result, they are opening up more, and they are able to understand the functions of each other’s behaviors much, much better now. Hoseok only recently learned of Seokjin’s need for control in certain situations. He doesn’t quite understand where it all truly stems from yet, but he knows how to better respond to it and approach his lover at times when that insecurity arises.
