‘”Have robot arms check you arm before you get Beetles,” Rocky insists. He taps the wall again. ”Been hurting you more since before power outage and arms no change cloth in sleep.”
“They probably didn’t because of the outage. I’ll have the NannyBot check it before I get ready,” Grace says, absentmindedly rubbing the offending appendage. He’s not exactly surprised that Rocky’s noticed his increased discomfort. He figures it’s because of the lack of painkillers and from spending hours inspecting the fuel lines for Taumoeba contamination, but doesn’t voice it. He knows the Eridian already feels bad about his ammonia burns and pushing him off the pain meds.’
Or: Grace and Rocky run into an unfortunate complication when getting ready to execute their plan to escape planet Adrian.

“We call this ♪♫.”
“The color or the rock?” I tease, earning myself a low staccato noise not unlike what a human might sound like when faking a laugh.
And then, from one second to another, he straightens. I sense the shift in the air, and as I rise from my squat, his gaze follows me very, very slowly.
“What?” I ask.
“Say name of this again,” he says, and I tilt my head. He’s never needed me to repeat something before. His hearing is immaculate, and he’s never once forgotten something I’ve told him.
“It’s a rock.”
He doesn’t move. He stares at me with his featureless face until even that feels more unsettling than eye contact.
“Grace,” Rocky says flatly. “You are fucking kidding me, question?”

“Uh…” I try to respond intelligently, explaining that the astrophage responded a bit more aggressively than expected. I want to tell her the team’s demo went wrong, the detonation was enough to shake the room, and that glass equipment shattered and rained down on us. I want to tell her it was truly just a case of terrible timing that she’d had a meeting in the neighboring department building and came rushing over to find me catastrophically failing at my job.
But I can’t really get out any words right now.

And wretched lonely perverted strange Rocky, who had seen all of its crewmates die and had no ways to solve the problem alone, decided that it had been far enough away from Erid and other Eridians long enough. What’s another social construct broken? "Just because the interactions between species are understandable doesn't mean everything under the hood, so to speak, lines up one-to-one.
Rocky learns about human society. And it would just like to know: what the actual fuck???

When he starts to feel ill however, his plan is to distance himself just enough to avoid scaring his human friend but Grace turns out to be too nosy for that plan to last over ten minutes.

Summary
Grace flexes its jaw, shifts the marker towards one corner of its mouth, then removes the marker without actually consuming it. It makes a sharp pop as it leaves Grace's mouth, brightening the tubing in Grace's nose.
"I've got it reversed," Grace decides.
I unfreeze enough to let out a loud and pointed noise of disgust.
"Yeah, sorry buddy. This isn't exactly my wheelhouse."
Without acknowledging the aborted attempt to eat the marker, nor wiping it's digestive fluids off of it, Grace taps the square it paused over again.
"This is actually a second cousin," It says.
I decide not to ask.

As a result, over the course of their years in space together, the two went through a few misunderstandings.(aka 3 times Rocky corrected a misunderstanding Grace had due to their language barrier, +1 time Grace was the one to correct Rocky)
