I don’t remember much about this one, given it’s been so many years since I read it. I remember being in love, though. Love love. LOVE.

It’s been about a year since my reread? Because I was stupid and forgot… but still, this is special for sure. The element of having all the characters in a dating show is so compelling and interesting, and the history Dokja and Joonghyuk have is as unexpected as it is tragic. But they found each other, like they always do.
Also, Han Sooyoung is THE GOAT 🐐. No surprise there.

🥰🙏 this is such an attentive and sensitive fic. It feels sooo realistic, and doesn’t idolise these two at all in a way that feels kinda reminiscent of the show’s themes, which is super cute. At the end of the day, they’re both just awkward adults with somewhat unstable jobs and deep uncertainly in themselves and every situation they live through, lol. It’s sweet to see them care so much about one another in a reasonable and not over the top way.
I think I just have a soft spot for roomate fics 😹

On the other side of the box, Yoo Joonghyuk, back hunched in a truly odd shape, sighs in frustration. “What do you think?”
Kim Dokja curls up tighter into his ball, as if that could possibly create enough space to accommodate all of Yoo Joonghyuk. All it does is earn him a particularly disdainful look, but he continues undeterred, “It’s because you’re trying to sit upright. You can just lay down over here, next to me. What's the problem?”
Without even turning his head fully, Yoo Joonghyuk shoots him an incredulous glance.
A misstep leads to Kim Dokja and Yoo Joonghyuk being trapped into a box for who-knows how long, forcing them to reconcile. They go a bit further than that.

I LOVE THIS AUTHOUR!!!!! UGHHH! Also, forced proximity is genuinely 10/10, and the addition of ORV forced proximity caused by scenarios or elements of scenarios bumps it up to 100/10. Love the light atmosphere of angst that’s pretty much a constant in this era of Jooghyuk and Dokja’s relationship, captured super well.

Read this in like, 2022. Changed me forever.
Edit after reread:
ooh yeah, this rocked. I can never work out how people capture the personalities of these novel characters so effortlessly without making them characatures of their genre. Like, converting a whole fantasy world into something normalic (is that a word?!) Cannot be the simplest thing, but this fic made everyone seem so natural with their quirks. Every character was introduced in a way that felt really pleasant and fitting to the story, with everyone's interactions having such accuracy it felt like reality.
I adore how YJH and Seolhwa's relationship with each other was approached in how she had so much importance to the Yoo family. In addition to this, KDJ and HSY's companionship was incredibly characterised. She's too funny, and the history they have together in this fic makes their interactions feel so personal and meaningful.
Love the casual meetups. Love the classic 'KDJ worms his way into the life of an asshole who doesn't like him', and the 'YJH falls for the rat gnawing at his hand'. Too cute, can't get enough of it.Thank you authourrrr!!!
