Summary
A continuation of “The Three-Wish Story” by Robley Wilson. In a medieval fairy-tale-ish setting, a young man gets 3 wishes from an old witch who warns him of their harm. He uses one to return the voice of his mute girlfriend, who revels in her new freedom. She no longer has to let him order her the same foods in restaurants, or stay home all day. He can’t stand the fact that she’s not silent and dependent on him anymore, while she makes friends and explores society. Eventually they break up, and a year later, he’s still moping while she’s living her life. He goes to her house one day, gives her the second wish, and then uses the final one to make himself mute. He expects her to give him his voice back, and why shouldn’t she? My ending starts from this point, with him on her doorstep.
