Summary
“Is something wrong? Should I call the doctor back?”
Eddie shakes his head. “No, no, I think I’m good to go just…” he hesitates, knowing his next words will inevitably sting. “Who are you? No one’s told me.”
He watches the man’s face freeze, but it doesn't fall. No, his mouth goes stiff in a way that probably means he’s trying to hold back his emotions, and doing a pretty good job, all things considered. He forces his face into a friendly smile.
“I’m Buck. Buck Bu - well, Evan Buckley, but everyone calls me Buck. We met at work, like seven years ago. We’re firefighters. I’m, well, I’m your partner.”
Partner.
Oh, wow.
Eddie has never heard a better word. This man, this beautiful man, clearly kind too, by the way he paid devoted attention to Eddie’s discharge instructions and held back his sadness and fear to stay strong for Eddie – this man is his partner. They were together.
Or:
Eddie wakes up with amnesia and meets Buck, who introduces himself as Eddie’s partner. Isn’t it funny how a word can have two different meanings?

Summary
Buck couldn’t remain here alone with all his racing thoughts. Catastrophizing. That’s what his therapist called it. He had to move. He continued trying to dig his way with his good hand, but the way the rocks had fallen, if he removed one, another took its place. It was like he was inside an hourglass.
But he wouldn’t give up.
There. Was he hearing things? A scraping sound.
His adrenaline spiked. He pawed at the rocks again, because noise meant movement and movement meant—
“Buck?”
“Eddie?” Buck rasped.
He was alive! Eddie was alive.
(Or Buck and Eddie get trapped in a cave-in and things go from bad to worse.)

Summary
Eddie swallowed hard. His voice broke slightly when he spoke again. “Thank you,” he said.
Buck’s head snapped up. “What?”
Eddie’s eyes didn’t quite focus on him. “Thank you,” he repeated, softer. “For not letting me die alone.”
Buck went still. Everything in him stalled for a fraction of a second. Like his brain refused to process the words in real time.
Eddie’s grip on him tightened faintly. “Take care of Christopher,” Eddie added.OR
A gunman loose in the hospital forces Buck and Harry into a desperate race to reach Athena while the building descends into chaos.
Three floors below them, Eddie is trapped in a stalled elevator bleeding out alone.
At first Buck ignores the voice calling his name. He has bigger problems. More urgent ones.
Until he realizes the voice belongs to Eddie.
And Eddie sounds terrified.
aka 9x18 rewrite of the elevator section because I didn't like how Eddie was ignored all episode

Summary
“He—He had a nightmare,” Buck says. Eddie can tell he’s tugging at his hair. “He was asleep for barely an hour, and now he won’t stop crying. The thunder scares him.”
Before Eddie can ever answer, Theo’s cries interrupt him. His voice wails out a sad, “EDDIE!”
Eddie pauses. “Did he just say my name?”
On the other line, Buck’s breath hitches. Eddie pulls the comforter off himself, already springing into action to find his shoes and car keys.
Still, Buck doesn’t reply. Theo’s sobs are even more earsplitting through the phone. “I want EDDIE!”
“He’s—” Buck sucks in a breath. “He’s asking for you.”
OR: Theo can’t sleep because of the storm. Buck calls Eddie and Christopher for their help.

Summary
Hovering his thumb over the link, Ravi hesitates for just a moment. Fandom is sacred to some people. It saves lives, even if "normal people" refuse to admit it. Suddenly, Ravi feels like he's overstepping boundaries, because fan-fiction is apart of some people's identities. You learn of a character and relate or love them so much, they gain a part of your soul. Like Ravi with Spider-Man. Like Christopher with Super-Man. Like Buck with…whoever he wrote or read about.
It could simply just be a reader account, Ravi thinks. Maybe all that typing was a comment gushing about how well someone did? And even if it was a writing account, all Ravi would do is look at it. Right?
Right.
Ravi finds Buck's private AO3 account, where Buck writes fan-fiction about Eddie being in love with him. He decides to do something about it.
