"Just... plant them? Without asking anyone's permission?" The last words snap him out of the spell of Daniil's presence, the inviting promise of his words, and he forces himself upright. Clears his throat, shakes his head, as if to dispel the twyrelike bloom of Daniil's words. "There have to be rules about that."
And Daniil laughs, wild and delighted and just a little manic—a sound unlike anything Artemy has ever heard. He reaches forward, and those black leather gloves come to rest, chill as night-cooled skin, on Artemy's cheeks.
"Artemy," he says very seriously, his eyes boring into Artemy's own, their faces so close Artemy can practically feel his lip ring whispering against his own skin. "Fuck the rules."

Summary
Six years after his late presentation as an omega and subsequent unceremonious exile from the capital, Daniil is flourishing in his new home. He has found peace between his body and his mind, with the family he and Artemy have painstakingly built together, and in the laboratory he has built with the Kains as his patrons. The research they have been conducting, however, was bound to draw attention—and when Daniil receives a reluctant invitation to present his work at a national conference, it should be all he has ever hoped for.
But when he travels to the capital with Artemy at his side, he is reminded of all the reasons he was forced out to begin with—reminded that despite all the changes he has pushed for in town, the wider world will be much slower to adapt.
