Summary
Left behind at the Misty Palms Oasis, Katara waits days for Aang, Sokka, and Toph to return. But when bounty hunters close in, her only chance at escape comes from the last people she ever thought she could trust: Zuko and Iroh. Now traveling under false names and bound by a fake marriage, Katara finds herself on the road to Ba Sing Se. At first, she barely trusts him, but somewhere along the way, she starts to realize Zuko isn't what she thought he was.
She keeps reminding herself it will end once they reach the city, but in a place crowded with millions of refugees and stuck in the Lower Ring, she doesn’t have much hope of finding her friends. With no leads and nowhere else to go, she resolves to wait for them to find her. But in their cramped apartment, the days turn into weeks, and the longer they stay, the harder it becomes to remember where the act ends and something real begins.

Summary
“Why are you looking for medicine in the middle of the night?” Katara seeks out Zuko’s face again, but it’s simply a vague outline in the dark. There’s no reply. She forges ahead, regardless, genuine worry mounting.
“Zuko, what’s-” She’s cut off by a sound halfway between a sob and a frustrated snarl. Katara wastes no more time, striding straight up to the shadowy figure and groping for his arm in the dark.
“Zuko, give me a light, now.”
“Katara, just go.”
“Now.” Throughout this unexpected encounter, Katara has been whispering, but now she injects command into her voice. The single word brokers no argument, and Zuko doesn’t give her one.

Summary
The war is over, but peace is fragile.
One year after the war, the Fire Nation is still feared across the world, and many citizens resent Zuko’s rule. Colonies are unstable, Earth Kingdom leaders don’t trust the throne, and whispers of rebellion spread through the capital. Iroh and the council insist the Fire Nation needs a visible symbol of unity with the other nations.
So Iroh, Chief Hakoda, and the council propose a political marriage.
Not just any marriage. One between Katara, Master Waterbender and the Chief of the Southern Water Tribe’s Daughter and Zuko, the new Fire Lord.
A union between water and fire. Peace made permanent.
Katara is furious.
Zuko is horrified.
