“Why do you push so hard?” Quincy asked one such late evening over Chinese take out and stale coffee.
“Why do you ask?” Moira returned with a questioning look.
“The rules and procedures, your research even. Aren't you afraid of unleashing something incurable on the world?”
Moira pushed around some of her food, seeming to actually think, “... im afraid of not having something to fix it when someone, or something does unleash that sort of thing,” she answered.
“But you're not worried it will be released because of you?” Quincy pushed.
“It would have to break through the lab somehow first,” she answered confidently.
It was that night, Quincy thought she had Moira figured out. ‘She just wants to save the world’ she thought.

Summary
As long as Evan has remembered, he has always been at fire station 118. It’s his dad’s station and when they moved to this new big city, he was having a hard time until he convinced his bus driver to drop him off at the station instead of his house. He doesn’t know how he got away with it, but he did and ever since then, he has lived and breathed with the people working for his dad. Today is not any different as he comes into the station like he does almost every day since.

Evan Jackson Nash aka EJ, is a loner kid in a new school until he starts visiting his dad's station. He becomes great friends with all of his dad's co-workers like Howard 'Chimney' Han, Hen Wilson, Jones, and Miller, but there was one in particular he never really wanted to know, Tommy Kinard. He never made Evan feel comfortable in a station he's practically lived in all of his life, so his trust in anyone else shattered in a matter of seconds when Tommy got a little too close for comfort. Now, we follow EJ through his adult life as a firefighter and building trust back up when a newcomer joins the station.
