If he closes his eyes it sounds human, not that his eyes being closed is much different from them being open. The screams climb in volume, accompanied by clattering and that click- hiss language of the Green Fucks.

It’s still getting louder, and Tommy realizes that the rest of the cacophony is coming with it. Something in his gut turns at the thought that this fighting spirit is completely new to this Hell.
