"Harry," comes Max’s voice from right beside him, a question in his voice, and after a few seconds, Harry’s eyes flutter open. It takes all the energy left in him to even lift his head.
His heart still pounding against his ribcage, he places one hand flat against the cool ground and lifts the other up into the dim, yellow light, turning his palm this way and that. Despite the fog clouding his head and the exhaustion making his limbs feel like lead, it quickly becomes clear:
His hand isn’t shaking. No tremors, nothing.

Heahmund still remembered how Ivar used to look at him: Like he expected Heahmund to betray him, to disappoint him, almost daring him to do it and face the bloody consequences.
Heahmund hadn't betrayed him. He’d held his word. He’d been loyal, the best warrior in Ivar’s army, without a doubt.
But lately, something had changed. More often than not, Heahmund detected the hint of some other emotion glittering in those impossibly blue eyes -- a yearning, so fierce it never failed to take Heahmund’s breath away.
It was… exciting. It was maddening.
