“I didn’t realize,” she mumbles. Cyno looks up at her, confused. She isn’t usually so ashamed of her nosiness. Usually more defensive, actually. “I didn’t realize they were from your lover.”
Cyno’s face suddenly burns as if Dehya had tried to cauterize it. “What?”
“The letters,” she stammers. “I only read one, I swear. I thought they were business letters.”
“You thought they were busine—Tighnari?” Cyno bounces back, helplessly. “Tighnari is not my lover.”
Suddenly, Dehya’s eyebrows furrow. “Excuse me?”
Her confusion offends him further. “Yes, excuse you.”

“Your mark is beautiful.” And perhaps Tighnari could have meant his own mark as well, when their marks match on perfectly on their skin, right down to the exact placement and angle of every line and shadow, but that wasn’t the case. Cyno walked around with barely any clothes on his body, and he wore his mark so beautifully, the dark lines on his tanned skin, the way the petals of the lotus rippled when he moved.
He was biased, he knew that for fact.
He lets the words tumble out of his mouth before he can even register saying them, “And anyone would be lucky to have you for a soulmate. No matter how busy you are.”
Tighnari has known that he belonged to Cyno for years now. He only wished Cyno knew the same.

Hat Guy scoffed, but finally turned his head back to look at him again. Sethos would consider it a win, even if the eyes staring at him were filled with incredulous contempt and did nothing to hide the very clear sentiment of “obviously, are you stupid?”
“Do you voice all your thoughts aloud, or are you just grasping at straws to fill the silence?” His hat tilted dramatically as his head tipped to the side in question, combatting the sarcasm lacing his words.
“Neither! Just making conversation, I suppose.” He grinned and Hat Guy’s nose crinkled up in disgust.

Just a prank. Nothing serious. It was Alhaitham afterall. He wasn't the type to flinch, or, wasn’t supposed to be.
He was supposed to be all nonchalant and stoic, not even thinking twice about whatever practical joke was being pulled.
Alhaitham was, in fact, NOT supposed to stare at Kaveh’s face so intently, like he was drunk on love, like Kaveh was the only person for him in this world, like Kaveh was the reason he breathes.
In which Kaveh’s prank on Alhaitham turns out to be something entirely else and he is not complaining.

Summary
Kaveh used to think that Alhaitham had mastered the art of ignoring him. The man would remain unflappable as he continued to read his worn copy of The Origins of Enkanomiyan Language, even when Kaveh was a hair’s breadth away from shattering the windows of their house with his severity of pitch.
No amount of screaming, threats to throw things, or violently waving in front of him could get Alhaitham to pause in his thirst for knowledge. As it turns out, Alhaitham literally just turns his hearing aids off so he doesn’t have to listen to Kaveh.
It’s for this exact reason that Kaveh has decided to learn Sumerian Sign Language.

To humanity’s credit, being a guardian angel is a lot less of a demanding occupation than it used to be. The modern era means that Taehyun does a lot less fending off tigers or the bubonic plague and instead spends his time protecting Soobin from much smaller things, like coffee burns or tripping over the sidewalk.
Soobin is riding the train home when someone takes the seat right next to him. It’s kind of weird, seeing as the car they’re in is almost empty. Taehyun, sitting on his other side, eyes the man warily. There’s something off about him. Taehyun can’t tell what it is. He’s perfectly normal-looking, if not ridiculously handsome. He’s wearing sunglasses, too, Taehyun notices.
The man lowers his sunglasses and winks. His eyes are an unmistakable ruby red.
A devil.
