Dante lets his chair drop back in place. "Got any bright ideas how we're gonna do that? It's Vergil— this is how he's always been, how it's always gonna be with him. He's not gonna change"
It's about as pointless as trying to put a leash on an animal once it's already roaming wild. Would be plain cruel at that point.
"You didn't even try", Nero says bitterly.
Dante sighs so solemnly that his shoulders fall. "Kid, I've been trying for forty years"After their return from Hell, a turbulent attempt at coexistence drives the twins apart. Vergil drifts, and Dante spirals.

Summary
After serving his time, Vergil returns home with the intent to pick up his business where he left off. Dante, long out of the game, does not take the news well. Once again, the brothers are at odds—with poor Nero stuck in the middle, torn between loyalty to the man who raised him and an unexpected longing for the father he never got to know.

Summary
In his pursuit of power in the criminal underworld, Vergil (predictably) went too far and got himself locked up, leaving Dante not only with guilt for failing to stop him, but a child to raise all on his own. Now, as Nero comes of age, he finds himself wanting even more from the man who has been everything to him for as long as he can remember.
(A prologue of sorts, but a story on its own as well)

Dante reverently set the book down between a pair of black candles, then slunk back toward the magic circle with a predatory smile. "I thought we were friends. All those nights snuggling in bed, sharing body heat... How many secrets, how many dreams, have you whispered to me in the dark? I think it's safe to say I know you better than anybody."

Nero gets stuck home alone with candy duty on Halloween. Well, not entirely alone: He’s got the weird stray cat he recently adopted to keep him company.
At least, until the fluffy bastard bolts and leads him on a wild chase that turns his whole world upside down.
