She doesn’t like to be left out of things and he doesn’t like to be embarrassed. So many of the problems they have are unsolvable, but not this one—they can do this, can learn the language the others already know so easily.

Bowie and the tiny female guard bring in a tray filled with tiny paper cups, the kind that pills come in at nursing homes. Each one is filled with a clear liquid. Seven cups are only a third full. For the children.
“Drink.” Bowie frowns at Tony. “It will be better for you.”
