Dr. Gaster has resigned himself to the fact that he's been erased from history. It's all overwritten, all impossible to replace. He has no choice but to build new relationships with everyone he used to know, including the king and queen he used to love so dearly. As painful as it is, at least they want to have a relationship with him in return. At least that's something.
He didn't expect them to start flirting with him though.
