Summary
The faculty at Ketterdam University can't wrap their heads around the Crow Chronicle’s sudden boom in popularity- is there something new about the design that draws people's attention? Perhaps it's the addition of the local bites column written by the ever-so-charming marketing major from Ravka?
Even Professor Haskell, the club's advisor, can't pinpoint what's changed, other than the two co- editors-in-chief he recently appointed. The pairing is, admittedly, a recipe for disaster, considering the two are tied for the top spot in KU's journalism program, challenging each other every chance they get.
It's no matter, the Crow Chronicle is a hit, which means Haskell must be doing something right. Besides, in his experience, most of the time the paper's success is dependent on something trivial, like where the stands are located or how often it rains each week.
Most of the time, at least.

Summary
On the journey back to the Little Palace, Queen Nazyalensky and her advisor, Nina Zenik are ambushed by highwaymen led by the notorious Dirtyhands. In the altercation, he manages to steal away with sensitive information pertaining to the Ravkan court that could put the entire country in jeopardy. Crown Guard Inej Ghafa, who has sworn her life to the first Suli queen of Ravka and the living Saint, sets off to track and capture the criminals and bring them back to the Little Palace to face justice.

Summary
She had been seventeen when the door of their house splintered open. There had been shouting, the heavy sound of boots on the stairs, her mother’s scream cut short. She had felt hands grab her, had felt the knife cut across her back, had gone down in the dark with her own scream stuck in her throat. Her vision darkened with her own blood loss until the black devoured. When she woke, her parents were gone. The house smelled of death.
The memory was washed out by pain and terror and tears until she remembered little of the events and its details except for the scars on her back to prove it was real and the voice.
A voice as rough as gravel, sharp as broken glass.
Inej had not been the same since.
And she vowed, like a prayer falling from her lips, that she would find the man that voice belonged to, and she would bring him to justice for her parents' murder. New York may let the unseen, unheard fall through the cracks but Inej would make sure they were avenged.
