After Harley Sawyer dismissed an experiment just to adopt the child he was supposed to experiment with, and given all the mistakes and deceptions overlapping one over the other throughout the months and years… Harley Sawyer is punished by being transformed into Experiment 1354.
However, and despite being a prisoner, he would do whatever it was in his hands to avoid Quinn to be hurt or experimented on.
And after a decade of abandoning and living underground, Harley Sawyer still intended to avoid Quinn to be discovered and trapped by both the Prototype and the human parasite lurking and getting inside the deepest zones of that rotting factory.

The Machine Herald returns to his human form and survives in the post-apocalyptic timeline where he reckons with the consequence of his actions and process his grief. He meets Jayce and discovers he has influence over past events. He tries in timeline after timeline to make things right and avert the apocalypse, but all of his efforts seem to be doomed. This is the untold story of old mage Viktor, beginning when he returns to his human form and ending with the series finale.

“What I’ve done is unforgivable. It’s irredeemable. None of them deserved this fate, but you have the opportunity to give them back their lives.” Viktor said some version of this in every timeline. He tried again and again to find the right words. Words that would echo in Jayce’s mind and give him strength in his moment of weakness.
Despite his best efforts, the results were more or less the same. Just as Viktor was incapable of leaving young Jayce to die in the snow, Jayce could never go through with pulling the trigger on Viktor.

Jayce looks at him like Viktor’s just said something incredibly and unbearably sad.
“So,” Viktor continues, “are you going to do the laundry, or not? If not, I will find someone else.”
Jayce is silent for a long moment. Then:
“Yeah,” he says. “I can do that.”
Viktor resigns himself to recover from spinal fusion surgery alone. He fails to account for Jayce's fervent desire to serve him.
