    Sam had always been different. Smarter, faster, and generally a little stranger. His dad had said that it was normal, but his dad had been gone for 20 years and Sam didn't exactly believe him anymore. He was different, and the buzzing at the base of his skull wasn't getting any quieter with age. Something was broken and hurt, but maybe the hidden staircase at the back of the arcade was the key to fixing it.

    Basically: Sam's actually a program. He would know that, if the only one who had known was around to tell him.

When Sam is suited up by the Sirens and his identity disk is plugged in, the command line activates, flooding Sam's mind with all the data Kevin's disk contains up to that present point, including memories of what's happened and all the knowledge of how to use User skills. Sam proceeds to kick digital ass and take digital name.
