But here's Tashi now, with a shadow of Patrick's own bit-lip agony wrapped up in the corners of her mouth, so maybe that's just the voice Art had grown into while Patrick wasn't around to hear it.

The problem is that Art used to work with her, used to be her partner in this instead of the opaque, detached roadblock he'd turned himself into recently. Again and again, Tashi had looked at him and asked: What do you need? What do you want?
