"eddie starting at a new firehouse in el paso and he’s texting buck at work and a new coworker asks who he’s talking to and he goes “oh, just my partner” absentmindedly and they go “nice! how long have you been together?” and he means to correct them but panics and says “about six years” instead
bonus points: it spirals into a bigger and bigger mess of lies by omission/careful phrasing
this of course culminates with buck surprise-visiting eddie’s new firehouse, when eddie immediately panic-hugs him in front of everyone so he can whisper into buck’s ear “they think you’re my boyfriend, i’ll explain later, please just go with it” and buck takes 0.2 seconds to process before loudly going “hi sweetheart, i missed you so much!” and keeping his arm around eddie the whole time as he meets everyone"

“We, uh, we don’t-” Stede stammers out, having wandered over to his bed nook, wanting to give the two some privacy.
“He’s my fuckin’ cousin,” Izzy says over him. “Now can we please focus?”
“Focus on what, Izzy? Dying? Surprisingly, I’m trying to not focus on that, hence the very nice brandy here.” Ed holds up the decanter for emphasis. “And apparently how you two are fuckin’ cousins! Like, what’s that about?”
