Cissie leans against the doorway to the parlor, keeping an eye on the kettle. “I’m not sure what you mean,” she says, carefully. Obviously any charade of normalcy went out the window at first mention of a stolen fifteenth century cross, but there’s still no reason to tell a stranger the details of her mother’s peculiarities— if it could be avoided.
“Well, the cross,” Cassie says. “I’m guessing— just based on what I’m seeing here— that you might already know it was theorized to be an object of protection against dark creatures.” Her face is very solemn in the dimness of the parlor.
Cissie is getting a headache. The whole world’s gone mad.

Summary
The Fabulous Four died to save the Girl, full of faith that she would be the one to save the world. The desert knows them as heroes, as those who paid the ultimate price for what they believed in.
Now, twelve years later, the war is over, won by the Girl who chose to use her powers to bring life instead of destruction. As the celebrations begin and the Dracs take off their masks, finally free from their captivity, four very familiar faces emerge from the crowds.
As the Fabulous Four grapple with their second chance at life and everything they missed in their twelve years of captivity, they must come to terms with what life looks like for them with the world at peace. What's left of them when the world doesn't need the Fabulous Killjoys anymore? Who are they without the fight?
--Basically the Killjoys didn't die, they were turned to Dracs and they get freed at the end of the war.
