Summary
According to science, there are around 100 million ways to lose someone; Jack and Robby managed it with one argument and almost 30 years of silence. Their problem now is that they’ve reached their dreams, woken up, and realized the real dream was the attending standing on the other side of the Trauma Bay—or the intern on the other side of South 15 with a half drunk coffee, a prosthetic, and a fresh start.
OR
Jack returns to Pittsburgh after being discharged from the Army as a first-year resident, and discovers his new attending is the childhood best friend he hasn’t seen since the night everything fell apart.Bookmarked by PeopleCallMeAri

Summary
In the aftermath of the Fourth of July, Robby embarks on his three month sabbatical. The plan is to ride across the States and up the Rocky Mountains to Canada. His hope is that he'll know what he's doing by the time he gets to Head-Smashed-In.
As fate would have it, he doesn't make it past Montana.
OR: Robby goes on his little death tour only to crash his motorcycle in the mountains of Montana. What follows is a trip to a rural ER, a no nonsense doctor with an eye for silver linings, and an involuntary three week pit stop on the path to oblivion.

Summary
Jack has, for as long as he can remember, used self-harm as a coping mechanism for the trauma he received at war and during childhood. However, he has been using it more often lately to control the damage and its effects as they creep up on him as the 10-year anniversary of his amputation approaches.
Robby is forced to see Jack, steady, calm and stable Jack, in a new light and control the damage he has done to himself over so much time, resulting in complicated conversations and feelings.
Neither Robby nor Jack knows if their relationship will survive before it even begins.

Summary
Some people might call it a sixth sense, but Jack Abbot is a doctor, so when he walks into the ED already feeling the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end, he knows it’s not magic, it’s his amygdala reading infinitesimal changes in the room. He isn’t conscious of it, exactly. But he’s not not conscious of it, either. His subconscious brain is processing minute changes in the environment, in the energy around him, in voice tone and volume, in motion and stillness. Patterns, and the changes therein. His therapist calls it hypervigilance, a trauma response. Jack calls it paying attention.
And okay, maybe it overreacts sometimes, this hypervigilance, but it's rarely wrong outright. So when he gets that feeling of something bad about to go down, Jack turns toward the source without consciously deciding to.
His eyes meet Robby's across the ED, and his entire body goes cold.
"Lena, call security," he says, the low whip-crack of his voice cutting through the conversation at the desk. "Get them here quiet. And call the police."
