Summary
The day Max Verstappen announced his move to Ferrari, only one rumour was able to steal his spotlight.
Lewis Hamilton is retiring.
All of this has nothing to do with Charles, and yet everything to do with him. His teammate is retiring, and his rival will be the one to fill said seat. The only person on the grid that Charles believes is on par with himself – better even. Which should feel horrible, going from one legend to another, instead, he can not wait. He will finally get his wish fulfilled, having Max right by his side.
Or, Charles is loosing his mind.

Summary
Read GutterBall's fantastic fic 'The Little Shatterdome Around the Corner', which convinced me to ship Chuck and Raleigh, and in the process was inspired to write this.
Chuck and Raleigh are matched as mentor/mentee buddies while at the Academy, semi-anonymously, and fall in love while waiting to meet up when Chuck graduates. Only, Knifehead happens. And everything falls apart.
Only, by pure coincidence, they start messaging again fully anonymously on a Kaiju-loss forum.
And then Raleigh's recalled for Pitfall.
And Chuck and Raleigh are made to drift.

Max is absolutely including Liam into the roster, because he still looks so young and excited and nervous about his season, and he keeps spiking his hair up with some silly hair gel which then makes Max want to smooth it back down, and—
There are six rookies on the grid. Which is totally fine, and Max is completely normal about. 100%, totally normal.
It’s his fucking cat instincts that seem to have a problem with them.

In a world full of animal shifters, Max being able to turn into a cat shouldn't be that weird. It wouldn't be, if Jos hadn't spent Max's entire life convincing the world Max could turn into a lion and not a house cat. Now, Max is stuck wrangling both his cat instincts and six rookies while trying to not let the entire world find out his brand "Unleash the lion" is a lie.
Somehow, Charles is involved in all of this. Max isn't quite sure how.
