Summary
As Chad is heading to his car—used, very used, but his, which made waiting tables all summer totally worth it, although he’s never going to admit that to Troy—he sees Ryan walking in the opposite direction, out of the mascot costume by now. His clothes look dry, and he’s definitely towelled off his hair; it’s sticking up worse than it did the one time in September when someone made the mistake of yanking Ryan’s hat off his head during homeroom. Chad looks around, but he doesn’t see any other cars in the parking lot besides the one he knows to be Jason’s, so he figures Ryan must be waiting for someone to come pick him up.
“Hey, Evans!” he calls. “Need a ride to the afterparty?”

There is a fox sleeping on his welcome mat. A very sad-looking white fox.(or Etho got cursed to be a fox, which, in true fairytale magic, is only broken by true love. Leading him to try and get Bdubs to admit his feelings through dreams and a warming new furry form.)

Dennis lays in the bed with a stillness so absolute it feels staged. A ventilator breathes for him in measured sighs, the sound too rhythmic to be human. It almost looks like he’s a kid pretending to sleep in the backseat of his parents’ car, hoping to be carried inside by strong paternal arms.
Robby would do anything for that to be the case. Instead, it is sedation that has smoothed away the sharpness from Dennis’s features.
It is a heart attack that has made him so still.

Dennis Whitaker fails to clear and gets shocked by a defibrillator. He takes it as a punishment for sinful eyes that can't seem to look away from Dr. Robby and decides not to tell anyone. The ER keeps moving, but Dennis's heart doesn't. It terribly, horribly doesn't.

The town is full of good people, and he quickly finds friendship in abundance. Amongst them all though, one stands out. Bdubs is kind and funny and exceptionally talented at a number of things. He's handsome too, and Etho can't help but crush on him, just a little bit.
They get along fantastically right from day one, but Etho keeps his feelings to himself. It's just a crush, it'll go away. And besides, it's not like Bdubs would ever like him back... Right?

Summary
“I called your mom, by the way,” he says. “Told her I was picking you up.”
“Are you taking me back?” Dustin asks, nervously. He didn’t really consider that calling Steve to pick him up might involve Steve dropping him off back to Hawkins. He really doesn’t want to be there right now, he feels too much, everything is too much, too big, the future looming over him feels too intimidating.
“Not yet,” Steve says, and Dustin lets out a relieved breath. “I told her we can put you up for the night and then tomorrow we can figure out what to do, yeah?”
Dustin looks at him, the kind slope of his mouth, the worried lines on his forehead. He suddenly feels bad for upending Steve’s life like this. Surely he had plans for the day, maybe work or school, something he had to do that now has been interrupted by needing to save Dustin, again, but from himself rather than from alternate dimension monsters.
“Sorry, Steve.”

It's senior year, and Dustin is having a hard time coping with everything. He runs away to Indianapolis in search of the comfort only his two best friends can give him, not knowing what he'll find when he gets to the other side.

It was a joke the first time he said it. At least, that was what it was played off as.
The exact context is lost to him now, but Bdubs made some dumb joke, and Etho must have told him it was dumb, and he replied something about knowing he was hiding a smile under his mask. Which, to be fair, he was. He always was when Bdubs made a dumb joke, or a good joke, or did anything really. It was something unbearably fond that he was glad the other couldn’t see. Otherwise, he would know how Etho felt, and how he still feels all these years later.
“You can’t prove I’m smiling with my mask on,” he’s sure he said, with that very smile evident in his voice. “I could take it off. To show you that I’m totally stonefaced.”Or
3 times Bdubs misinterpreted Etho's invitation to see him without his mask and 1 time Etho offered outright.
