Maybe the best piece. Something bright and sharp and unfinished. A second chance—not to fix Vergil, not to replace him, but maybe to learn from it. To be better. He could be there for Nero in ways he couldn’t for Vergil, to make sure that Nero never had to be alone the way Vergil evidently was.

    It wasn’t just Vergil’s eyes that haunted him when he looked at Nero. It was himself.
