Summary
Uncle Tommy’s teased her about being a homebody before, but she really and truly just doesn’t like staying away from home. She likes to tease her dad that it’s because it’s the only place she gets to be the boss of everything. He grumbles about her sassing him, but she’s still the one making the grocery lists, so he can grumble as much as he wants as long as her will still rules the roost.
Not that there’s much to rule over right now, not with her dad and uncle out in Wisconsin helping one of her nana’s friends who needed help making her house more wheelchair-accessible since her husband had a bad fall. Her dad had been hesitant about leaving her, but she’d thought this would be great practice for her not having her dad a mere two hour drive away if she really needed an out. After all, she’ll be off at college in just four years, and she definitely doesn’t want to end up being a weirdo who has to call her dad to come get her.
Hearing the nearly deafening sirens going by outside, though, she desperately wishes she hadn’t been quite so insistent about being just fine without her dad for two weeks.

“It’s okay. I know a guy.” Ellie likes talking about Joel like he’s her mob lackey or something. Makes everything feel a little less looming and leering and lethal. She called Joel "a guy" when it came to getting an extra slice of pie or getting outside of Jackson's walls when she needed a day off of school, when she couldn’t fucking stomach it anymore. He told her to cut it out whenever she called him that. It was a bit. She liked all of their bits these days. “He’ll get you out too.”
“I’m Ellie," she volunteers though she doesn't want to. This woman isn’t an enemy. She’s as caged in as Ellie, worn down to the point that she barely had her wits left about her. There was a look in people’s eyes when they got that way, when they’d started giving up hope. Ellie would fucking know.
The woman shakes something loose from her bones, digs her teeth against her lip before she answers, “I’m Sarah.”
Ellie snorts. “Yeah,” she says with only the edges of humor clinging on. “He’ll definitely fucking save you.”

Summary
His heartbeat is calming and soothing, just radiates kindness with each beat, feels like he’s listening to a lullaby.
It’s honestly the kindest sound he’s ever heard.
Tanjiro’s pretty eyes and his kind heart are more than enough for Zenitsu to find himself falling fast, despite all logic telling him this is a bad idea.
Then again, Zenitsu has never been the most logical person.

Summary
Tommy hit the ground hard.
The ground rushed up to meet him before he could even register what was happening, a tangle of roots and fallen leaves scraping at his skin and tearing through his hoodie. The impact knocked the air from his lungs in a harsh, strangled sound, leaving his body rolling through undergrowth and roots as if the world itself was trying to catch him. His shoulder slammed into the earth, head clipping something solid, and his ankle twisting beneath him with a sharp, sickening snap that sent white-hot pain shooting up his leg.
He lay there, stunned, staring up at a canopy of green he didn’t recognise.
