An unfamiliar voice coughs behind her—Kanade turns her head and strands of purple hair fall into her vision.
“This kind of illness—it’s not good for the patient to know the details of, unless they risk relapse. Do you remember anything?” The purple-haired girl shifts closer, looking at Kanade with an intensity that makes her shrink away.
It feels like bad manners to interject, but the purple-haired girl seems like she knows Kanade. “I'm sorry,” Kanade whispers, “do I… know you?”
Kanade’s forgotten something important—she and Mafuyu traverse the aftermath.

“I killed my mother.”
Kanade froze. She stared dumbly from where she stood in the open doorway. Rain poured down on the roof above but the air was thick and humid, suffocating. It was before the morning rush so its rhythmic drumming was the only sound that could be heard, as though a warning cry to the oncoming school-goers—and yet here Mafuyu was, head bowed, soaking wet and waiting politely at Kanade's door. She didn't seem to mind the torrential rain or the sticky heat. In fact, she would have appeared completely unbothered if not for the trembling of her clasped hands and the vacant look in her downcast eyes.
“I shoved her shoulder but the place she hit was bad,” she said, “I don't think I can stay here anymore so I'm going somewhere far away to die.”
Or, Mafuyu wants to die and Kanade goes wherever she does.
