“Could I get your number?” they ask, as if they’re not still a completely faceless enigma that’s been making one-sided passes for two weeks now.
“So I’m supposed to exchange messages with someone who I wouldn’t even be able to pick out of a police lineup if this ends up being just a long con to get me to join a cult?”
To her shock, they place an elbow on the bar, lean over, and lower the hood.
“Does this increase my chances?” they ask with a goofy smile.
They're cute. Like 90s teen drama cute. Like Catra could see them singing fucking annoying pop songs outside her window cute. That’s not good. This person is absolutely trouble.
“Fuck,” Catra breathes out. It kinda feels like someone just kicked her right in the gut in a thrilling way. “You couldn’t have the decency to make this easier by being ugly?”
Catra finally meets the woman of her dreams/nightmares, a goofball blonde with big captain save-a-ho energy. She's easy going, gets Catra's jokes, and likes her band, even though it's pretty shitty and Catra's sabotaging them from the inside. It's just a shame that the girl is already competing on a reality show for 20 women's hearts.

Summary
Adora's plan to make life better for the average citizen of the Etherian Empire has made her the target of many threats. She's not too concerned, though. She would much rather take the time to get to know her new lady-in-waiting and reminisce about her childhood in the slums.
Catra is one of the Horde's best assassins, which was why she was assigned to this sensitive target. The job would require her to return to her home empire, which is full of bittersweet memories of her old best friend.
(aka Catra tries to kill Adora, Adora tries to regain Catra's trust, and I do absolutely zero research about anything historical)

“Congratulations!” Catra called over her shoulder as she raced along the tree line, “you’re the slowest things on the island!”
The pookas on her tail gave an enraged shriek, and one launched itself towards her. She was priming herself to leap aside when a violet bolt caught the creature midair.
“Do you have to taunt them like that?” Micah asked. He shot a wary glare at the tree line and lowered his staff as the remaining pookas scrambled back into the forest.
“Something to remember me by,” Catra answered as they walked along the beach. “This place is gonna get boring once we’re gone.”

At twenty-one, they’re sent on a suicide mission that will supposedly end a thirty-year war. Neither of them expects to survive, but they do. Their friendship doesn’t.
Adora hasn’t seen Catra since that fateful day five years ago. Now a teacher, (and infamous ex-war hero) at Brightmoon School, she knows the new Literature teacher a little too well. A lot has happened in five years, but Adora is set on fixing a broken promise from long ago.
However, with their troubled past, scarred present, and a new threat called ‘Prime’ rising to power, it seems they might also have to fight for their future.
