The basement, pencils in the ceiling, guns and monsters and case notes. Scully’s neat little mouth, her pressed skirts and trousers, the clean lines of her collar, her graceful hands moving across her keyboard, her low alto mixing with Mulder’s baritone in practiced rebuttal.
Mulder watched her. He thought of Scully, her cancer, her insolvent ova, his fear of losing the X-Files, his fear of losing Scully, his feelings for Scully that ticked ruinously beneath his FBI badge like a bomb.
“You,” said Frohike, biting into a burger slathered in caramelized onions, “have to tell her.”
“No,” said Mulder. “I can’t. I can’t ruin her life again. I won’t.”
Mulder is in love with Scully.
