The room, despite its width and emptiness, feels secluded. Your lungs dry out, and your chest starts to hurt. As you walk backwards, you hit a lever in the process. Darkness gets replaced with light, turning on from each machine that connects to a certain figure in the middle.
Caleb.
But no, this cannot be Caleb.
He’s not breathing. Maybe not yet.
He looks small.
Incomplete.
“Caleb?”
No movements. A beat.
“Caleb, is… is that you?”
After a few seconds, a sharp breath strikes through. His purple eyes beam with a different kind of glow, like it’s not his. An orange light is pulsing in his chest, across each of his cheek—Caleb’s arms are tied up to the ceiling, wires attached to numerous machines around.
“Oh my god, Caleb.”
You run, tears forming in your eyes as you cup his face.
“Oh god—oh my god, Caleb. You’re so cold.”
