Summary
Sasha looks over at Mikasa and smiles. “Thanks, Mikasa. For having my back, and cheering me up, and…just being a great friend. I appreciate you, you know that?”
Mikasa feels her face heat up. It has to be the sunset right? Yes, of course. She sends a small smile to Sasha. “I know. Thank you. You’re…not so bad yourself.”
Sasha laughs at this, like she does at almost anything. Mikasa is content to simply stand and listen to the pretty sound, basking in the warmth of Sasha’s presence and the golden light of the sunset.
Neither says a word when Sasha slides closer to Mikasa.
And when Sasha lays her hand over Mikasa’s, and Mikasa doesn’t pull away, well, they’re the only two in the world who need to know about it.

Summary
"I don't want to miss him anymore." She sucks in a sharp breath. "That's awful, isn't it? I'm awful."
If she really loved him, she wouldn't need anything in return. She wouldn't have this emptiness inside her, always wanting.
"You're not." Sasha rebuffs her immediately. "You're hurting."
She wouldn't say that if she could feel the pit in her chest. If she could pull back her ribcage and search, and search, and search, and not find any heart at all. Just a gaping wound where it should be, and no end to the cavity.

Summary
The invitation to Rader Industries’ new simulation prototype had seemed like a dream, which aspiring writer didn’t fantasize about living out their own stories? Plus, it was a golden ticket to publishing, a one-of-a-kind experience combined with a guaranteed paycheck that was extremely hard to pass on. Unfortunately, fate apparently despised Mio.
Her name is Zoe, she writes fantasy, and she is annoyingly bubbly.
Or,
How Mio publishes a book, fights the evil reflection of the worst facets of herself, takes down a billion dollar company, and falls in love (not necessarily in that order)

Summary
For a while after the machine, after the shutdown, they kept some distance. Just a few days. Enough to catch their breath. They stayed in touch through text—dry little check-ins that sometimes spiraled into long spirals of venting and word-vomit. Mio didn’t like how much it hurt when Zoe took too long to reply. Two minutes felt like abandonment. Ten like betrayal.
So when Mio suggested Zoe stay over for a few nights—to "keep an eye on each other," she said, like it wasn’t already obvious how desperately she needed someone real in the room—Zoe said yes without hesitation.
She crashed on the couch at first, even though Mio offered the bed. Said it was fine, said she was used to hard furniture. Mio offered a real pillow. Zoe brought her own sunflower-patterned blanket. It was supposed to be a few nights. Just until they both got their footing again. Just until the nightmares weren’t so frequent. Just until Mio could fall asleep without jolting awake to shadows that weren’t there.
But then a week passed. Then two.
