“So how much do you remember?”
He thinks: he remembers how to lie low enough in the grass to creep up on a horse, how to kill a monster, and how to cook a steak. These seemed important then, but as of a day and a half ago, there is no evil anymore, and there’s no use for any of these things, even though his hand is still on his damn sword.
He doesn't know how to answer. He hardly knows how to breathe; the air fills his chest like there’s been a sudden change in altitude, like his lungs were built for the murky viscosity of impending cataclysm, and he can only gasp on the breeze’s sudden lightness. The only answer he manages to squeeze from his scattered mind is, "The important parts."
Damn. The wind sighs in response.

He blinked. “Impa, the glyphs say it’s not possible.”
“Oh, Link, old friend, I don’t care what the Zonai thought was possible. Perhaps they didn’t know of a way to reverse the draconification process, but that was so, so very long ago. Think of the legends we’ve recorded over the centuries since, all the many ways that Hyrule has been saved from ruin by unimaginable power — do you think the Zonai really knew everything that would ever come to be?
“It will be hard to find, certainly, but I believe wholeheartedly that there is something in this land that can bring her back. So unless you don’t think we owe it to our Princess to try, I suggest you get up off the floor, wipe the tears off your face, and get to work.”

She realizes that he barely lets her go. Even when she doesn't realize it, his knuckles are always brushing against hers. When he carries her home for the first time in ten thousand years the first thing he does is run a warm bath, strip her down, hoist her into it like it's the most normal thing in Hyrule to do after all that has happened. And then he climbs in with her and she pushes herself a little closer and puts a hand on his cheek, and he's still trembling. It's been hours, and his body is a withering leaf about to be blown away by the smallest of winds.
Zelda doesn't know what to do then, but she knows she can stay.
