His memories trickle in, he tries to remember what he was last doing. There was Hopeland, and there was red. A lot of red.
Vash.
There’s an uncomfortable feeling in his chest at the name, the face. Spikey, Needle-noggin, Blondie, all his stupid nicknames for one very familiar face.
He died, the knowledge doesn’t feel as scary as it should be. Just strange, like the first time he saw Vash talk to a plant. Like something beyond his comprehension was placed right in his lap.
Wolfwood wakes up almost twenty years after his death. Things have changed, the world is a kinder place than he left it. There's only one thing missing.

Summary
Something fundamentally changed after that. It was as though having two people he could touch made Vash bolder, more open with his affection and more likely to reach out rather than wait to be reached out to. A kiss on the cheek when he sat down to breakfast, to the top of her head for a job well done. Meryl basked in it.
But now so was Wolfwood- Nick, she corrected herself again. His touches were less frequent than Vash’s, and far more careful, purposeful. Vash gave affection and love as naturally as breathing, but Wolfwood held his cards much closer to his chest.

July is everything and nothing like Vash expected. He knew Nai was waiting for him, a trap set ready to catch Vash, but he expected something different than dropping into a dark area filled with water.
Meryl and Wolfwood know that Vash was walking into a trap, and by god would they not let anything happen to their friend. Even if means breaking him out of a secure facility. Most likely making their lives shorter by pissing off a very temperamental Knives.
Not like that would stop them.
