The Nora tribe is the type to seek meaning in everything. To connect all that is to their All-Mother. And perhaps one of the largest parts of that is something they carry on themselves; their braids. Every braiding type, pattern, and bead added in had its own special meaning, all of them sacred in one way or another.
That's why Varl was so surprised to walk in on an old Nora marriage ceremony of Kotallo braiding Aloy's hair.
