When Steph finally stops to breathe, Grace is still with her, and actually making eye contact with her, and Pete has disappeared to who-knows-where, hopefully not doing anything too stupid.
Grace’s eyes are wide, and kind, and gentle, and oh God she’s going to break Steph’s fucking heart, isn’t she. “It’s me, isn’t it?” In lieu of a response, Steph reaches a shaky hand up to Grace’s hair, adjusting her butterfly clip. Grace’s eyes close for a moment, and she seems like she’s relaxing into Steph’s touch, maybe, or making peace with something. Steph fucking hopes that that something is that the two of them are getting out of here alive if it fucking kills them, which maybe isn’t the best choice of words, but she’s far too worked up to care.
