Summary
Phainon clicks his tongue in annoyance and pulls on the other’s hair a little, to which Mydeimos doesn’t even budge. “With all the things I’m doing for you, I might as well be your mate.” He grumbles.
“Would you like to?”
He laughs a little at the sudden suggestion. “You’re not getting out that easily.” Phainon pauses and shakes his head, perhaps a little at himself, and his voice drops, unintentionally. “I’m an alpha, I can’t give you any heirs.”
Mydei turns around to look at him, something dark and unreadable in his eyes. The water from the tub shifts with his body and spills over the edge of the tub, soaking through Phainon’s trouser and shirt.
“So if you can,” he asks, “you would be my mate?”
The silence stretches on between them as Phainon struggles to find his own thoughts.
“Just let me do my job.” He opts to shove the other man back into the tub instead.
Mydei lets himself be pushed back without saying another word. He turns forward and sinks into the tub.
In another life, Phainon would’ve loved to be Mydei’s mate. It’s just too bad he can’t bear any heirs.

“For once.” Mydei sighs. “Can’t you at least grant me the honor of waking up next to you in the morning.”
Phainon thinks the honor would be his.
He's so close to just letting himself be coddled by the stubborn prince, almost giving in to those golden eyes staring so fondly at him, but he remembers their differences, how he is merely a knight tasked with guarding the castle halls while the one before him is the very person loved by entire kingdom, and he knows he has to stop himself from continuing whatever fantasy he's been brewing — A reminder that's long been overdue and yet still never done.
"Maybe next time."

Phainon finds a man on the shore of Aedes Elysiae. He falls fast and hard.

“Wanna fuck?”
Neikos freezes. Swallows. Mydei watches the shape of his curving throat as the chocolate makes its way down, and licks his bottom lip. Neikos’ hand is closed on the countertop, long, pale pianist fingers slowly unclenching, and he’s quiet.
When he moves, it’s as if he’s moving against time itself. He’s distorting the space between him and Mydei with silent footsteps, large strides. He stops on the side of the couch where Mydei’s head rests, and Mydei cranes his neck until he can meet Neikos’ eyes. He looks handsome even like this, most of his face hidden and upside down. Mydei smiles.
“You’re drunk,” Neikos says carefully.
“I’m not,” Mydei replies, and he isn’t, not really, but he’s starting to feel somewhat warm.

Another body presses up behind him and hands circle to press themselves against his stomach; slowly trailing them up his abdomen and on his shoulders, "Aren't you a bold lion, little Prince?" The heat and warmth from Khaslana's countless coreflames spreads on back and Mydei isn't shy to admit that he also feels like traveling to his groin.
Phainon, unwilling and too stubborn to lose, protests quickly and presses himself flush against Mydei in retaliation. "That's not fair, Khaslana, he's mine in this lifetime!"
"We're the same individual, Phainon. Surely you won't mind sharing Mydei with me?"
Just then, another body joins their litle cuddle pile and hands go around his waist, effectively keeping him caged in, "Mydei… mine, too…"

Mydei didn’t pull away. “Mm, go on.”
“I…” he started, voice catching slightly as Mydei’s grip tightened just enough to make his brain briefly stop working. He forced himself to keep going anyway. “I could do so much better than this… version of me you’ve made up in your head.”
Mydei’s hands paused, though they didn’t move away.
“In your fantasies,” Phainon added, his voice dropping a little as he leaned closer without fully realizing he was doing it. “I could be so, so much better, Mydei.”
In which Phainon wakes up one day suddenly able to see everyone’s thoughts, including Mydei’s.

Mydei sets the basket down by the bed, noticing his mother jolt at the sound.
“Mother, why is your hair white all of a sudden?”
The figure in bed gasps, eyes peeking from under the blanket. The voice that answers is low, rough, so unmistakably deeper than Gorgo’s. And he knows exactly who this voice belongs to.
“Worry not, my child. It seems like an effect of the illness.”
“Hm. Okay. So why is your voice deeper than usual?”
“I’m just hoarse, darling.” Gorgo never calls him darling. “Since I’ve been coughing all night.”
The blanket shifts again, and Mydei’s gaze drops lower, to the weird lump tenting the blanket right in the middle.
“I see. But there is one thing I cannot understand, Mother.” He emphasizes the word, eyes locked at the obvious excitement of the wolf currently impersonating his mother.
“Why is the blanket tenting like that?”
Wait, this is not how the fairy tale goes...
