“Sorry about that,” Crowley mumbled, gesturing at Aziraphale’s leg. “I’ve never said.”
Aziraphale waved him off. “Oh, it’s just an old wound from—”
Aziraphale froze. He realised that Crowley had slipped up at the same moment Crowley did, and they met each other’s eyes: Crowley, horrified, Aziraphale, calculating.
“The War,” Aziraphale finished, slowly.
Unlike humans, angels and demons only ever meant one war when they talked about the War. It was singular, and horrifying enough to warrant an audibly capital letter.
“Oh?” Crowley said into his wine glass, his voice an octave higher than usual.
“But you knew that already,” Aziraphale continued, “didn’t you.”
