“This is an intricate dance they do, close to truth and yet just shy enough to make the small life in Port Nacket bearable. They know each other’s devotion, but to speak it would shatter the peace.”

Summary
"The Priest Lake Fire was a wildfire reported on the morning of October 14, 2017 in a valley located by Priest Lake in the state of Idaho in the United States of America. A team of 15 smokejumpers parachuted into the area on the afternoon of October 14 to fight the fire. As the team built a fireline on the slope above it, unexpected high winds caused the fire to suddenly expand, forcing them back uphill. During the next few minutes, a "blow-up" of the fire covered 3,000 acres (1,200 ha) in ten minutes, claiming the lives of 14 firefighters. The sole survivor was second-year smokejumper Emily Menges. The fire would continue for nine more days before being controlled."

Summary
No prisoner has ever escaped from Corroghod, the maximum security planetary prison that holds the most dangerous criminals and dissenters in the Eyjavian Empire. No thell—the elite, hyper-loyal warriors trained and conditioned to fight for the Eyjavian Church and Empire—has ever disobeyed their programming and turned against the Empire. No rebel has ever infiltrated such a heavily guarded Imperial institution and lived to tell the tale. These are facts, as true and solid as the floors of a starship—and all of them are about to change.

"Emily wakes up. She gets dressed. She makes instant coffee, and grimaces as she drinks it. She hauls her daily bucket of water from the pump outside. She cleans up some litter the wind has carried in. She swears pleasantly at the crows on the building's roof. She does not think about the silence."

(all you wanna do is) love a decent person by Moonlark

Summary
"Leah bites her lip, and Katie has to use every ounce of self-control she has to keep her eyes from focusing on that, to maintain eye contact instead. It's so much harder to restrain herself here, in the context of good fun, where she doesn't have the excuse of swimming to tell herself to look away and not think about that kind of stuff. She can't stop thinking about Leah's lips, and how soft they look, and how she could taste the sweet cocktail Leah's been drinking if she just leaned forward..."

Summary
This is a story about horse racing. It's also a story about love. Those who are familiar with the sport will tell you that the two have a lot in common. Those who are familiar with love would most assuredly agree, even if they are ignorant of the sport and have never seen a race in their life.
Such is the power of love and horses.

Summary
"In this moment, Michelle becomes aware of two crucial details: one, that there is an arm draped across her side, the palm curved and resting low against her stomach in what in any other circumstance would be considered an extremely intimate pose--and two, that the arm is connected to a body, and that body is lying right behind her, pressed against her back, holding her close and snoring very softly.
There is someone in bed with her."
Or, on the morning of October 3rd, 2016, Michelle wakes up as a 19 year old college kid with no memory of anything since 2007.

Summary
Michelle's staring. She knows this, and she isn't going to try to hide it. No matter how much Haley says she hates the rain, she's still so beautiful like this: standing in the knee-high grass, laughing and swearing at the dripping trees and the overcast sky and Michelle still dry on the porch, shivering, barefoot and delighted.

Summary
"On the gravelly shoulder of this rain-slick road, a single car was stopped. It hunkered in the gravel like a bear against the storm, solid and squat and determined to stay until the rain stopped. A woman waited beside it, long brown hair soaked and hanging limply down her back, raincoat dripping miserably around her sodden tennis shoes. She was pacing back and forth, the length of the car, over and over again. Occasionally she pulled out a phone and checked something on the screen, keeping it as dry as she could, and then returned it to an inner pocket.
An owl called, solemn and low--ominous in its loneliness--and the trees continued their damp monk-like silence."

“Who would want to do this to you?” Kun asks, pacing back and forth, shoes squeaking quietly on the tiled floor.
“I don’t know,” Lio says, frowning at the elegant grain, slightly stain-splattered, that is his kitchen table. “It’s a scandal. People like scandals.”
(or, someone tries to frame Lio for using PEDs and he has to clear his name)

Summary
The kingdom of Jalinn has been in turmoil ever since the coup took place and the Browns were deposed and slaughtered. The new king rules with an iron fist; everything must be just so. But in dark corners, where no respectable soul dares venture, there are those who whisper of strange things... of hope... of rebellion... of a child who got away... of a chance to make things right again... of a king to kill.

"Hey, with all the furries walking around, we'd fit right in, huh? No one would look twice."
Jeff sighs, rolling his eyes in the slowest, largest, most exaggerated movement he can manage. "Yeah, no. The furries are people in animal costumes, not actually animals. I have no desire to end up in the pound, or," he shudders, "the zoo."
--
Because, as Cutch said, furries.
