"We had lunch at one," Jackson provided. He still wasn't quite sure why Holly had taken to hanging around his place while March was running errands now that her days were free for the holiday season, or why March trusted a professional bruiser to look after his daughter, for that matter. Whatever the reasoning, it meant that for the time being Jackson had more than just his fish for company, so he wasn't about to complain.

"I'm being dramatic," I tell myself aloud.
I'm really not. Dying in space is a very dramatic situation.

A few weeks after starting the Nice Guys agency March gets drunk, Healy gets a strange inkling, and Holly watches The Parent Trap.
Not for the first time, Jackson wonders why he agreed to this partnership. But there’s something he can’t quite put his finger on, something about the soft, hapless, helpless way March loves his daughter and knows what a screwup he is, that makes something funny happen inside Jackson’s chest. He hasn’t eaten yet today but it feels almost like his stomach is twisting, like he’s about to do something stupid and completely out of his own control even though Jackson Healy has always prided himself on how well he keeps himself under control.
Not food poisoning, Jackson thinks. March poisoning.

“Oh my god,” mutters Jackson. He’s not sure if he’s furious with himself for being in love with this idiot, or with this idiot for just saying things like that out of the blue.

Holland March isn't in denial. He knows he likes men, okay? And he's fine with it, really, he is. Even if he doesn't exactly act on it that often.
But being attracted to Jackson fucking Healy? His business partner, housemate, and—let's face it—best friend, who's nearly two decades older than him? The ex-bruiser who was already kind of fat before he went and broke his leg and gained like thirty more pounds on top of it?
And what does it say about March that he wants Healy even more now?
Yeah, he thinks it's understandable to have a bit of a crisis about that.
(In other words: Holland "I didn't know I was into that" March learns several things about himself when he accepts that he wants to fuck that old man.)

It was something that Holland March hadn't had to worry about for a long time; the only times sex had been on the table in the past few years, given his marital situation - or lack thereof - had been after nights out on the town, once Holly had a designated place to stay. It had worked pretty well. She had only come home to barely-dressed men and women in the kitchen a couple of times. Overall, he considered that a solid win.
Of course, Healy had screwed that up completely. Suddenly sex had been a very possible and very desirable option. Therefore, action needed to be taken to ensure that they could get their hands, mouths and whatever else on each other as often as possible.

Holland was so heartbreakingly obvious, Jack almost felt bad for him. Sometimes, the urge to take pity and swoop down—grab Holland by the tie, or the colorful lapel—and just plant one on him was almost too strong to bear.
But he couldn’t be sure whether Holland wanted him because he wanted him, or if it was because Jack was already there, steady and useful and safe. If it was only because of that, then it wasn’t worth the risk of losing the good thing they already had going, no matter how much Jack wanted him, too.
