Summary
He always knew he wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, and he was fine with that. He didn't want to be a nerd, a loser, someone people ignored in the lunch room.
And then it was monsters and a broken heart and kids that needed looking after, and suddenly being the dumbest guy in the room was the worst thing a guy could be.

Steve struggles to find his voice following the not-so-end-of-the-world. The only person who seems to notice is his new shadow, Eddie Munson.

"Then trust me when I say: you are going to make one very convincing momma," Steve knows Robin's grinning even without looking at her, evident in the way she squeezes his shoulders and rocks him a little bit in his chair.
"Oh I am so going to regret this," Steve groans as he closes his eyes, face grimacing at the thought of the pain he knows he's about to feel for the next few hours.
OR: Dustin begs Steve to pretend to be his mom so that he's not expelled from Hawkins High. Eddie reacts like any human being who’s crazy about Steve Harrington would.

"What about you, Ed?" Lloyd asks, wiping mustard and vinegar from his mustache with a crumpled up wad of napkin. "Got yourself a girlfriend?"
He looks over at his newest hire, seated in the chair to his left, cheeks all puffed out around a mouthful of the best meatball hero in Boston, and arches his eyebrows expectantly.
"Something like that," Ed confirms, though it comes out muffled, half the consonants stripped away by ground beef and mozzarella and a sourdough roll so good it'll make you slap your mother.

“What’s got a kid dripping with midwestern charm, a black eye, and 20 bucks in cash to a gay bar at 2pm on a Monday?”

“I’ll go with you, if you want?”
“You’ll…what?” asked Eddie suspiciously. “You’ll come to the con?”
Steve's neck prickled. Really what he meant was that he would drive up with him to sell the tickets but as he looked over and saw the slight upturn in Eddie’s eyebrows and those big eyes the same shape as the pit in his stomach, he couldn’t do anything but smile and nod.

Summary
Steve makes the mistake of opening his eyes and accidentally glancing at the screen just as some awful monster jumps at them, almost giving Steve a heart attack. His hand leaves his lap to grab Robin’s hand, needing physical comfort.
It takes him a few seconds to realize that, while the hand he just wrapped his fingers around is thin and bony like Robin’s, it’s also bigger and uncharacteristically cold. Steve glances down at it with a frown and realizes that the reason why it’s so cold is the multiple rings adorning the fingers— fingers that don’t belong to Robin.
Because Steve reached out with the wrong hand and grabbed Eddie’s instead.
Fuck.

Summary
But Eddie realizes he might not need to run away when they reach the line just as the guy manning the ride opens the last car to let the last two people in.
“Won’t you look at that!” Eddie whirls around, clapping his hands together. “It’s full! Oh well, there’s always next year!”
He throws his arms around Jeff and Gareth and starts dragging them away. Only for them to stop in their tracks when there’s a voice behind them.
“We have one spot left!” The guy announces. “One spot left! Who wants to ride?”
Gareth whirls around. “He does!” He says, pointing at Eddie who curses inwardly. “He’ll do it. Right, Eddie?”
Through gritted teeth, Eddie mutters ‘if you insist’ because what other fucking choice does he have?
He makes his way to the front of the line like a man stepping into the gallows, jaw clenched and hands balled up into fists at his sides pausing again just as he’s about to get on.
Because sitting on the Ferris Wheel car is no other than Steve fucking Harrington.

Summary
Steve sits down on the opposite end of the couch. He puts his elbows on his knees. Eddie has one arm crossed over his chest, nervously yanking at a loose curl of hair. It’s not exactly how Eddie pictured his first love confession to take place, but normal went out the window last spring and never came back, so weird is just par for the course.
“I’m really fucking sorry, Eddie,” Steve says hollowly. He runs a hand through his hair. “I wish I could make this easier for you.”
I wish I could make this easier for you.
Easier.
The words bang a gong in Eddie’s memory, throwing him back through time until he’s fourteen again, laying in bed and praying to the god he no longer believed in that he would wake up different.
Or: Steve thinks he’s the only one who struggled to come to terms with his sexuality. The thing is, he doesn’t know the full story of just how long it took for Eddie to figure it out.

Summary
Wayne Munson’s lived his life mostly free from the hubbub of small town gossip. Some was unavoidable in his tiny holler as a boy; more was part and parcel to the service, and plain keeping half-sane in war, but the point of the matter is this: he don’t mean to collect any of the latest scuttlebutt on his way just to town after he gets off his shift just past 5, where the diner's got a better cup-o-joe than the sludge he gets on the floor.
And honest: he don’t think that’s more than he’s earned the right to ask.
But it is more than he bargained for signin’ up to, when he sees the only other people in the diner at this hour on a Saturday.
-
Or: Wayne maybe sees his nephew's boy with a lady friend at the diner one innocuous weekend morning, and he maybe overhears some concerning words shared between the two of them—he can't be blamed for being unable to turn off his own ears.
It could be argued, however, that he can be blamed for the conclusions he draws as a result, and for the handwringing that follows. He was raised better than to countenance idle gossip, after all.

Summary
Eddie nodded enthusiastically, dragging his knees up to his chest on his spot on the floor. “Come, Steve. Please? It’ll be fun.”
Steve glanced between the two of them, battling internal turmoil. “It’s ok, I don’t wanna…mess anything up.”
Wayne chuckled lightly. “It’s not a test or nothing, Steve. Come along, catch some fish, keep Eddie entertained. You’d be more than welcome.”
“Well…” Steve looked back to Eddie, where his boyfriend was digging his nails slightly into his leg now, watching him with imploring eyes. He wanted to say yes, he really did, but did they actually want him to come, or was Wayne just being polite?
“Stevie,” Eddie whispered, “say yes. It would make my day, seriously.”
Steve never could say no to him. He smiled, small and shy, and nodded. “Ok. If you’re sure. I’d…I’d like that.”

Summary
The Hawkins Police Department doesn’t actually spend its days investigating missing children or government conspiracies or serial murders. Nope, most of the time it’s just little crimes, regular nonsense. Too loud parties, disagreements at bars, suspicious kids surrounded by skunky smoke. Normal stuff.
More than once, at the end of those everyday calls, there is a familiar face: Steve Harrington—and also, that no-good punk with the long hair.

"Home doesn’t even exist anymore. It took one night where he thought he was alone, because he was always alone, for them to come back and see him. See him with another boy. Now that he had it, or something as close to it as he can get from a late night cruising pull, it’s even farther away.

He’s shaking, he knows. Trembling something minute that, hopefully, Wayne won’t pick up on. “Good evening, Mr. Munson,” Steve greets quietly, voice quaking. “I—I’m sorry to intrude, but I don’t know…There’s nowhere else I can go right now.”"OR

Kinktober Day 15: Lap Dance
The bottle skitters to a stop, barely bypassing Eddie to fall upon Steve once again, who throws up his arms in triumph, his tight polo rising up as well to tease a strip of toned, olive skin. Eddie gulps as his mouth immediately starts to water, forcing himself to tear his eyes away from that tantalizing piece of skin, only to lock eyes with Tommy’s, his brows drawn together in concentration.
“Steve,” Tommy drawls, his eyes flickering between the two men. “I dare y’to give Munson a lap dance.”
A cold sweat breaks out on Eddie’s brow, unnoticed by Steve who simply lets out a joyful whoop, knocking his shoulder playfully into Eddie’s. “Prepare to be dazzled, Eds.”
He’s going to fucking die.
That, or he’s already dead. The jury is still out.

“Just - just don’t make a big deal out of it.” Steve bit out. “Please.”
“Scout’s honor.” Eddie held his fingers up in a mocking salute, an impish, shit-eating grin taking over his face. The sight of it sent Steve’s heart fluttering, but he ignored it in favor of closing his eyes.
“You weren’t even a scout.” He huffed. “Just get on with it.”

The thing is, when it comes to prioritizing, Steve is hardly ever at the top of the list. And he gets that - he’s not really at the top of his list, either. He doesn’t need to be; he takes care of himself, and he’s fine. Eddie, however, seems to see things differently.
Or, five times Eddie put Steve first, and one time Steve felt like it was okay to ask him to.

Summary
“Don’t be such a coward,” Eddie tells himself. “Fucking— go.”
His body doesn’t move. Not even an inch. His ass stays glued to his seat, his feet firmly planted on the floor. His hands don’t leave ten and two.
“God dammit,” Eddie groans, dropping his forehead down to the wheel.
Except — he underestimates the distance, and rather than pressing into the top of the wheel between his hands, his forehead smacks squarely into the center of the horn.
He jerks back so fast he gives himself whiplash, but the damage is done. There is no taking back the short, sharp, loud honk that emits from the bowels of his traitorous van.
“Shit, shit, shit, shit, fuck, shit,” Eddie hisses, eyes going wider than the moon hanging in the sky tonight.
He immediately slouches in his seat, sinking down as low as he can go. But it’s too late. He’s caught Steve and Robin’s attention now, and despite parking off to the side and a little further back, his set of wheels is unmistakable.
They’ve seen him. He can’t leave now. He has no choice but to go inside.
