If he had to rate his most recent assignment on its level of bizarreness, Riz had to admit it would probably be pretty high up there.
Well, he contemplated as he rocked the little bundle of limbs and tears in his arms, trying to get her to sleep after her afternoon snack which made her all fuzzy and upset from the looks of it, maybe the assignment itself wasn't all that bizarre compared to all the exploits and shenanigans his adventuring party would get up to when they were young.
It definitely had the most bizarre long term consequences though.

Cass knew what the conversation had been about, all Fabian remembered was Ayda's furrowed brow as she concentrated on copying Terpsichore's jazz-hands, and something about the history of Leviathan jigs, and at some point a stout dwarf nurse with her beard tucked into a hair net had told Fabian his mother was ready to see him and introduce him to his new baby sister.
An endless procession of well-wishers had filed in and out of the little room containing an exhausted Hallariel and a beaming Gilear. And Cathilda, of course.

Fabian laughed in relief, surprising himself slightly with how nervous he’d been about the whole asking-Riz-to-help thing. “Amazing. Thank the gods. This is great, actually. You can help me plan an optimized agenda, and everything!”
“That’s the most excited I think anyone’s ever sounded saying the words ‘optimized agenda’.”
“That’s because I am excited.” And it was true. He could feel himself buzzing with anxious energy, which was kind of ironic considering how hesitant he’d been about the whole idea at first. The thought of having Riz’s support along the way just made the growth journey concept that much more manageable. “Promise me you’ll help me the whole way?”
“Promise.” Riz held out his hand, and Fabian shook it.
“Fuck yeah.” Fabian rubbed his hands together. “What’s the plan?”
