    Sonic had been fighting Eggman for as long as he could remember. He knew how the man worked far better than anyone else. So, when the mad doctor became The Tinkerer, he was the first to tell the others to leave him be. Sure, there was some objections here and there, but eventually, everyone came around. Everyone…except Shadow and Espio. Both were still heavily against the notion that the Doctor could change, even under the effects of amnesia. Still, the two conceded after they saw just how different The Tinkerer was when compared to Eggman. While unhappy, they’d let the man live his new life so long as he stayed far away from their bustling society. A wonderful compromise in Sonic’s opinion! They get to live without threat of a sudden robot invasion, and Eggman gets to grow into the good person he remem- believed he could be. Everyone wins here!

    So why was it that after Sonic came back from a short trip a couple of islands over, he discovers that the man is dead?

    Or:
    The people of Mobius really don’t like the fact that Eggman doesn’t have his breathing privileges revoked and decides to fix it. Sonic…doesn’t take the news too well.
