And Zoey certainly had her fair share of evidence that was never going to be the case for her. So there was no shot that the universe would set her up to be the butt of such a cruel joke, right?

    She was still the odd one out. The one with a lisp that peeked out sometimes, an accent that didn't quite sound right, androgynous clothes, shorter hair and pierced ears. And now she was the one who felt like there was something she was supposed to be doing. Something that she was frustratingly close to.

    She skips school in Seoul one day—with a group of friends she most definitely shouldn't be around— they hang out late at night drinking stolen bottles of soju and pierce each other's skin with instruments they shouldn't have. They try to entertain themselves— who would've thought that there's nothing to do as teenagers during a school day— and a poster catches Zoey's eye.

    And she really doesn't have any time for this - striking up a weird pen-pal correspondence with two total strangers - but Rumi just can't help being drawn towards these two mysterious women who take such good care of her cat.

    Rumi accidentally ends up sharing custody of her cat with Mira and Zoey. The three of them become pen-pals through messages delivered via catmail to coordinate how to take care of him. It's silly and weird. Awkwardness and feelings happen.
